The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) ‘Drawing and Technology: The Role of Drawing and Technology Towards the Preservation of Cultural Heritage’, is jointly coordinated by the Howest University of Applied Sciences (Howest), the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), and the Polytechnic University of Cávado and Ave (IPCA).
In an age shaped by technology, what place does traditional drawing hold in preserving our cultural heritage? This BIP explores the intersection of traditional artistic values with contemporary art and design practices alongside technological advancements.
By engaging with the rich cultural landscape of Kortrijk, students are invited to produce architectural sketches, study museum collections, and visually capture the lived reality of the city and its people. These classical methods of drawing and illustration are ultimately translated into a digital format, culminating in an augmented reality exhibition piece showcasing the students’ work.
This course aims to provide an in-depth analysis of visual note taking and the methodology of thinking on paper.
It also explains the process of making visual and contextual observations, and the subsequent stages involved in establishing connections for a meaningful narrative and composition.
Students will also receive instruction in perspective studies, the importance of the under drawing and approaches to observational drawing, as well as advice concerning storytelling, conceptual art, and the creation of digitalised augmented reality exhibition pieces.
If you are interested in this in-depth course on visual note-taking and thinking on paper, exploring cultural heritage through observation, storytelling, drawing, perspective, and AR - Apply Now - Spots are limited.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme, learners will be able to:
- Demonstrate the principles of drawing for representational visual communication.
- Demonstrate perspective drawing fundamentals for still life, architecture and figurative study.
- Execute compositional and narrative problem-solving for illustrative storytelling and conceptual art making.
- Apply digital applications and working methodology for Augmented Reality.
- Acquire knowledge about other cultures and apply this knowledge in an appropriate way with respect for the uniqueness of each individual person
- Know their own frame of reference and worldview and can relate this to other perspectives
- Listen to the vision and expertise of others and also accept the relativity of his/her own views and ideas
