Digital literacy is essential in today’s world—full of opportunities but also risks. This course helps (future) teachers and other professionals to integrate digital skills, creativity, and safe technology use into their professonial context.
Digital literacy is everywhere! Today, digital skills are essential for living, working, and daily life. Many services are now organized digitally. A lot of data is collected when we are online and AI is developing quickly, making many tasks easier. At the same time, awareness of digital opportunities to develop, create, and design is growing.
The possibilities of digitalisation have been increasing for decades and are still developing fast. With these opportunities also come great risks: How can we keep our data safe? What are the dangers of fast communication and sharing images and videos worldwide? What information can we trust, and what not?
Digital literacy is not only about gaining digital skills. It also includes using technology wisely for designing, creating, and communicating, while keeping yourself and others safe in the digital world.
This online course helps (future) teachers in all degrees of education across Europe and other professionals to effectively integrate digital literacy into their teaching and working. The MOOC Digital Literacy consists of several modules, one focussing on the understanding of digital literacy and others focusing on a specific aspect of digital literacy: ‘what is digital literacy?’, ‘digital systems’, 'media and informationliteracy, data, ai, design and create, programming and medialiteracy. The course combines theoretical insights with suggestions for practical assignments that demonstrate the participants ability to guide others in digital literacy in a variety of ways. Participants will also reflect on their own learning and professional development.
Being digitally literate helps teachers and other professionals make wise and responsible choices when using technology in all subjects. It builds confidence to guide others in a fast-changing digital world. Teachers can use digital tools for creativity, collaboration, and safe communication. They also learn to understand data, privacy, and trustworthy information. This way, both teachers and learners grow into responsible and future-ready digital citizens.
