This Short Advanced Programme (SAP) is integrated into the RUN-EU Students Week, hosted by Polytechnic University of Cávado and Ave (IPCA) and jointly coordinated with the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (TUS). During the week, students will work in international teams to address real-world challenges through innovative, practical activities. On Friday, participants are also invited to take part in the RUN-EU General Assembly, joining the wider RUN-EU community in transforming our regions together.
This SAP Research Challenge aims to promote the development of in-person R&D activities and practical skills on the measurement, monitoring, and reporting (MMR) of climate change actions. The goal is to blend foundational knowledge with practical skills and actionable insights, promoting contact with academics and practitioners who will share good practices developed by companies of the region. The emerging challenges in sustainability accounting, auditing and taxation research under the digital transformation and the green transition will be explored and debated in different critical perspectives during this program. The SAP program is divided into two components: training and group research. The training component will be based on short thematic workshops taught by academics and experts. These workshops will focus on emerging topics of governance and accounting related research topics (namely, climate action planning and monitoring, sustainability reporting frameworks, integrated reporting, corporate social reporting; green taxation for climate action; digital tools for sustainability good practices) and training in basic research components (namely, Research Methodologies, Data Analysis, Scientific Writing, design thinking).
This SAP aims (i) to understand climate change policy, science frameworks relevant to MMR, and fiscal incentives; (ii) to equip participants with tools and methods to measure, monitor, and report climate change actions (including greenhouse gas emissions); (iii) to develop practical skills for climate action planning, emissions accounting, and climate data communication and reporting. (iv) to foster capacity to comply with international and national climate reporting standards (e.g., GRI, CSRD), and (v) to promote interdisciplinary learning by integrating science, policy, technology, and community action.
