Design your Light Signature
GA + Students Week

The Short Advanced Programme (SAP) Design your Light Signature is integrated into the Students’ Week within the RUN-EU General Assembly, led by the University of Burgos in collaboration with Häme University of Applied Sciences, the University of Galati, Polytechnic University of Cávado and Ave and Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences. The programme explores the intersection of digital technology, embedded systems, and automotive design through the development of intelligent vehicle lighting systems. Combining digital prototyping, electronics, programming, automotive logic, and creative design, it introduces students to the theoretical and practical foundations of smart mobility technologies. Through hands-on workshops, collaborative activities, and industry-oriented challenges supported by the ITCL Technology Centre, participants will design and program custom automotive light signatures using programmable LED systems and microcontrollers, developing innovative solutions that combine functionality, safety, and creativity.

This intensive, hands-on Short Advanced Programme (SAP) invites you to explore the intersection of digital technology and automotive design. Over the course of 20 to 30 hours, you will step into the role of a systems designer to tackle a real-world challenge: creating a functional, intelligent vehicle lighting system.

You will work directly with addressable LED matrices (such as WS2812B or NeoPixels) and accessible microcontroller environments (like Arduino or ESP32) to bring your designs to life. The curriculum is built around practical problem-solving, guiding you from basic logic concepts to a fully working physical prototype, supported by industry insights from the ITCL Technology Centre.

What you will experience and achieve:

  • Understand Automotive Lighting Logic: Replicate the real-world behavior and safety rules of daytime running lights (DRL), dynamic turn signals, brake lights, and hazard warnings.
  • Program Smart LEDs: Learn the fundamentals of digital control to manipulate color mixing, brightness, and sequential animations on LED arrays.
  • Build a Physical Prototype: Wire and connect push-buttons to microcontroller inputs to simulate driver commands, watching your hardware respond in real-time.
  • Design Custom Animations: Go beyond standard functions by programming unique "startup" and "shutdown" visual sequences, giving your automotive Light Signature a distinct and modern character.

Whether you are looking to expand your digital prototyping skills or simply want to understand the embedded technology behind modern smart mobility, this course provides a collaborative and creative environment to engineer a tangible solution.

Don't miss the chance to turn your concepts into a working prototype.

By the end of this program, you won't just understand smart lighting—you will hold your own custom-designed LED signature in your hands. Take your first step into the world of embedded systems and automotive design. Register today and bring your project to light!
